About this session

The goal of the workshop “The Time for a New Deal for CUNY is Now,” is to discuss the recently launched New Deal for CUNY legislation sponsored by Assembly Member Karines Reyes and Senator Andrew Gounardes. The bill is supported by organizations in the CUNY Rising Alliance, including University Student Senate, Hispanic Federation, NYPIRG, New York Communities for change and the Professional Staff Congress/CUNY who represents 30,000 faculty and staff at the City University of New York.

The New Deal for CUNY legislation will restore free tuition for undergraduate students and, over five years, establish minimum staff-to-student ratios for mental health counselors, academic advisors and full-time faculty at CUNY while professionalizing compensation for adjunct faculty. Panelists will discuss why this legislation is so important to Black and Brown communities throughout the city and why CUNY is central to the economy.
